I had to go to the hospital to have blood drawn again, so I took LONGSHADOWN'S WOMAN by Bronwyn Williams to read while I waited my turn. I finished it last night, hummmm it started out good but kind of bogged down towards the later half.
Here is the blurb:

HALF-BREED LONER
Jonah Longshadow had never walked an easy road. Now the hands of destiny had yanked him from a white man's prison and set him down on a hardscrabble farm, paired with a woman whose quiet courage and gentle kindness filled him with dreams that a man like him had no business dreaming....
Two dollars' worth of trouble -- that's what Carrie Adams had probably bought herself when she paid Jonah Longshadow's freedom. But she needed strong hands to help her tend her land, and this mountain of a man seemed made to order. The only thing she hadn't counted on was her heart entering into the bargain.
*** Thoughts
I loved in the beginning when Carrie is trying to get the mule to go to town, I was giggling as she had to cuss like a sailor like her husband or the mule wouldn't move. Jonah Longshadow is a very proud man, he stands up to Carrie and even as frightened as she is of Indians, she doesn't back down to his stares. He doesn't speak to her or let her know he can speak English but Ms. Williams lets us hear his snappy comebacks. They are a hoot.
As the attraction builds for both Carrie and Jonah, in walks her very abusive husband. This is were the story took a turn that lost me. I would have enjoyed it much more if the husband had just been dead! LOL
I rated the book C+, but not a keeper.
Two of my reading buddies have recommended THE EARL'S PRIZE by Nicola Cornick, I think I will take it with this afternoon when I go for chemo.
